The new Synology Disk Station Manager (DSM) version 3.1 was released at the beginning of the month (1st March 2011) with a whole bunch of enhancements and new functionality ensuring that Synology remain firmly seated at the top of the NAS market.

Here are some of the highlights of the latest release:

1. Multifunction Printer Support for Windows environments,
2. Auto DSM Update, DSM now updates itself when a new release is available – about time right?
3. Download Station 3, including built in torrent search, eMule downloads for non-admin and multiple concurrent users
4. Mail Station 2, mail server is now integrated into the Disk Station Manager
5. Audio Station 3, updated with new interface designed to be more intuitive
6. Photo Station embraces social networking & multiple instances so your friends and family can have their own Photo Station and link with Facebook and Twitter.
7. File Browser integrated preview for photo, audio and video
8. File Indexing function to speed up and enhance search results
9. Open supported file types directly in Google Doc’s
